Chattri and The Windmills Waypoint 1
A circular route near Patcham in Sussex that partly follows The South Downs Way. This route crosses open downland which is steep in places and can get muddy at times. The Chattri is a traditional Indian memorial unveiled by The Prince of Wales in 1921 to commemorate the fallen WW1 Hindu and Sikh soldiers that were cremated at the site. The Jack and Jill windmills are situated just off the route near Clayton. Jack, the black tower mill was built in 1866 and is now privately owned. Jill is a white post mill built in 1821. It was originally situated in Patcham and moved to its current location in 1852 by a team of Oxon due to housing expansion and is open to the public. More information is available from The Jack and Jill Windmills Society.
