Blue Bell Hill (7.5 miles 12 km ) Print
Waypoint 1
From Common Rd. turn north on bridleway (BR) next to Robin Hood pub. Ride downhill for 1.5km. At the railway, the bridleway turns left (most horses are very little worried by the nearby trains). Continue on BR over the railway bridge and turn
Waypoint 2
Step over “horse friendly” barrier, ride for nearly 1km, negotiate a rather awkward metal horse stile and continue to junction of tracks.
Waypoint 3
At Nashenden Farm turn left on bridleway, ride between houses and cross the railway bridge.
Waypoint 4
Here you have a choice. EITHER continue on bridleway up hill, slightly right then left (south) so that the tree line is on your left for 1.5km OR take the 3.5km loop kindly provided by Kent Wildlife Trust. Ride straight ahead to the fence TQ729658 then turn left and ride beside the hedge for 1km of undulating field margin. When you reach the edge of the wood, turn right, ride through two gates then up and down a hill quite steeply between pasture and woods. CARE There may be rabbit holes and some big flints on the path. After about 0.75 km the path enters woodland, it is uphill and narrow. Do not to stray off the permitted horse path and do not let your horse eat the yew trees (poisonous). Leave the woods over horse stile (TQ726651) and turn left (south) to rejoin bridleway.
Waypoint 5
At junction with byway ride straight ahead for 2.5km to Start.
Waypoint 6
From here go east on Common Road for 0.25km and turn right (south) down byway (TQ736625). Do not let your horse eat the yew trees (poisonous).
Waypoint 7
Just before road, turn left on a path between two fields, up the horse steps and ahead to track (BR)
Waypoint 8
Turn left (north east). Keep straight ahead up hill on bridleway between chalk quarries then in a hollow lane through woods and up horse steps.
Waypoint 9
Turn left at top of steps, left again onto Common Road and 1km to Start.
