Shared use trails here means routes which are used on foot, horse or cycle but are not shown as public bridleway or byway (or only short sections of a longer route are bridleway). They are commonly recreational routes over disused railway lines but may also result from recent development. They may be owned by the council or be promoted by Sustrans as a cycle route. They may be known as a greenway, multi-user trail, non-motorised user route – there are a number of terms, none of which are legally defined, which leads to confusion and uncertainty.
Please report near misses or incidents on www.horseincidents.org.uk or BHS app 'Horse i', not DobbinData. Obstructions or other problems should be reported to your county council. For more about other Equestrian Mapping Projects see www.bhsaccess.org.uk
